We celebrated International Day of Peace on September 21 by making and displaying our Pinwheels for Peace. We had great fun creating them and writing our own messages for peace. What are some ways that we can have peace in the classroom and on the playground?
Welcome back to school. We hope you are busy making good friends and learning new things. What are your favorite things about the school year so far?
Hi soon to be first graders and second graders! It’s been two weeks since the last day of our 2010-2011 school year. We hope you are having a fun summer. What have you been doing to keep busy?
The Journey Museum is a fun place to visit, especially when you can’t go outside on rainy days. Visit their website here for more information on upcoming events. Check out the Mad Scientist Classes. The next one is called The Mad Scientist and Your Senses. It’s for students ages 7-10. You get to learn about sight, touch, taste, and smell with hands-on experiments. Their Family Fun days are always a good time. The next one on June 19 is about comets and meteors. You get to see an educational video and/or listen to a speaker, complete a craft activity, get an activity packet, enter for a book drawing, and visit the museum. We went to Bear Country and Mount Rushmore for our field trip today. We saw many wonderful things. Be sure to check back for some fantastic photos. In the meantime take our poll and check out Bear Country's website here. Bear Country has some excellent photos on the home page. If you click into the "Animals" link, you will find links to 20 different species find at Bear Country. Have fun exploring! Do you know the difference between a seal and a sea lion? Many people do not. Mrs. Roller learned this first hand from her previous job at Marine Life. It is a pet peeve of hers when she sees a children's book with misinformation. There is often confusion between the two. Mrs. Tautkus decided to take full advantage of our trip to SeaWorld by interviewing an expert.
Hello first graders. Mrs. Tautkus and I saw One Ocean, the new Shamu show at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida. We wish you could have been with us. Since you were not, we decided to have Shamu say hello to all of you.
What WOW words can you use to describe this magnificent creature? See you soon, Mrs. Roller Hi first graders! Mrs. Tautkus and I are staying in a hotel called The Castle. It is medieval style and has very interesting décor inside. We saw this knight and immediately thought of all of you. What evidence do you have that you are being a Mighty Knight this week?
Dear Mighty Knights, Greetings from Florida! Mrs. Roller and I have been here since Saturday, going to classes and soaking up some sun. While we are having fun and learning lots, we sure miss all of you! We have seen many people and places taking steps to go green and protect our earth. Check out the pictures below for some examples along our trip. We have done many things at school to go green. What are you doing to go green at home? (Remember to type like you write - capital letters, punctuation, word wall words.) See you soon! Mrs. Tautkus We had an exceptional presentation with Maggie and John from Black Hills Raptors. They taught us all about birds of prey. We also had three special guests- Elise, a red-tailed hawk, a kestrel, and Icarus, a great horned owl. Share something about the presentation. What was your favorite bird and why? What is something you learned? What do you still wonder about? For more information on Black Hills Raptors, visit their website at http://blackhillsraptorcenter.org/index.php.
